The Story: What the Family Needed
The Sen family (a senior cardiologist and a corporate finance director) bought this 2,800 sq. ft. apartment. They wanted an airy home for their two teenage daughters and elderly parents, with an open kitchen, lots of natural sunlight, and durable materials that would not spoil during Kolkata's humid monsoon seasons.
Project Scope: Civil restructuring, modular kitchen, custom wardrobes, false ceiling & 2700K lighting, marble polishing.
3 Major Problems & How We Solved Them
Monsoon Moisture & Swelling Plywood
The previous wooden cabinets were bloated and infected with silverfish due to heavy Kolkata humidity.
We used 100% boiling-water-proof (IS:710 grade) marine plywood for all cabinetry, paired with anti-fungal primer and sealed edges so moisture can never enter.
Dark, Closed-Off Kitchen
The builder kitchen was enclosed by dark brick walls, making it feel hot, gloomy, and disconnected from the family dining table.
We removed the non-structural dividing wall and installed a sleek fluted glass pocket slider, letting natural daylight pour across the dining room.
Messy Hanging Wires & Bulky Storage
Messy router wires, TV cables, and bulky freestanding almirahs ate up 20% of usable floor space.
Engineered floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobes with concealed push-to-open lofts and recessed cable channels behind the Italian marble TV console.
What We Did: Step-by-Step Execution
- Removed the dividing kitchen wall and installed a modern island counter with anti-scratch quartz stone.
- Customized full-height master wardrobes with Blum precision soft-close fittings and internal sensor lights.
- Calibrated ambient recessed ceiling lights to a soothing 2700K warm tone to make bedrooms feel like a 5-star hotel.
- Restored and diamond-polished the original Italian marble flooring to a mirror-like glass reflection.
